except的用法(except for的用法)

1)Except后排除的内容与主语往往是同一类的，而exceptfor后所排除的内容与主语往往不是同一类的。

All the buildings are excellent except this one. All the buildings are excellent except for their location 此处比较难理解，except可以说是从一个整体中除去一个与其它部分不相同的部分，如例句中 this one 是 all the building 中的一部分，它是包含在主语中的。except for 是表示从一个整体中除去一些瑕疵，且除去的部分与主语不是同一类的，例句中，all the building和their location 明显不是同一类的事物。2)当except用在句首时往往改用except for There was no single person in the dark street that night except apoliceman on his duty. 此句相当于 Except for apoliceman on his duty,there was no single person in the dark street that night.
